GenAI: Theory and practice

Ideas, as elements of thought, can loosely be described as either visual, concrete or abstract although, in the context of design thinking, the modes often overlap reflecting how design, as a discipline, and practice, moves along a scale or spectrum . And so, do ideators have preferences in which mode they start the ideation process, and whether guided by a design brief or improvisation? For example, viewing the ideation process from a theoretical perspective, as articulated by, say, Donald Schön, Victor Papanek, and Nigel Cross. Or ideating by exploring and manipulating physical materials? Or, generating ideas through visual means, from sketches on paper to 3D digital modelling. If these are modes of ideation, or ideation tools, what then of GenAI which appears an all-embracing tool, or mode of thinking for getting the design process started?
